New York Feng Shui consultant Master Pun Yin's Feng Shui Tips to increase positive Dragon Chi and reduce negative White Tiger 'Sha' Chi

"Chi ... air, vapor, breath, ether, energy ... vital energy, the life force, the cosmic spirit that pervades and enlivens all things and is therefore synonymous with primordial energy" - The Encyclopaedia of Eastern Philosophy and Religion

Feng shui principles have been in use for thousands of years in Chinese architecture and art. These prints of classical Chinese paintings show several feng shui principles in site selection, direction and landscaping. Notice how both dwellings are built so the elevation of the land rises behind the house and the rear of the house is at a higher elevation than the front.

The house on the left is surrounded by pine trees, which represent longevity, constancy and strength.

The front door of the house on the right is at the lowest level of the house, giving the position of the house more power. It is surrounded by bamboo plants, which represent peace and reputation.

Positive and negative energies flow all around us and through us. In Feng Shui tradition, positive energy is the dragon's breath, as the dragon is the most powerful creature in Chinese mythology. The feng shui master works to guide and pool this energy, or chi, for maximum benefit. As an example, one feng shui tenet translates as: "Mountain influences people, water influences wealth."

feng shui tiger sha chi Negative energy, called sha chi, is also thought of as tiger energy. It is generated by natural and artificial forces. An example of sha chi is a beam in the ceiling above a couple's bed, since the beam could cause division between the two. Sha chi also occurs if the transmission box on an electric pole on the street is too close to the bedroom or living room, as the transmission box represents fire element and disturbs chi. Many businesses are negatively affected by sha chi. A common urban problem is traffic flow pointing directly at the business. There are many different types of sha chi, each having a different name and each requiring a different feng shui prescription, depending also on the nature of the site, the client's profession, and the Chinese astrological make-up of the resident or proprietor.
